About the Records:
- “Title” refers to the station’s address.
- Numeric street names are written out (first, second, third etc.).
- "Architectural Style" refers to the architecture of the original building, unless indicated otherwise.
- "Year Built" refers to the build date of the original building surveyed, unless indicated otherwise.
- Station records contain PDF versions of the survey forms, detailing the station’s history and architectural description. Use the scroll bar to navigate to the bottom of a form.
- Records can also contain digital photos, which present as square thumbnails. Left click on the thumbnail to display the entire photo.
- Some records contain links to Google photos from years when Historic Gas Station Survey photos are not available. Click on the link to open the Google window, and use the Google navigation tools and timeline window to view the station.
Ways to Search:
Browse
- Click on the Gas Station tab to select a browse option:
- Browse all – lists stations alphabetically by address (shown as title). Click “Title” to toggle between A-Z and Z-A.
- Browse by tag – click one of the themed tags to find stations sharing that theme. The larger the tag font, the more records in that theme. [Note: The High Integrity tag refers to the architectural integrity of the building in the most recent survey. The POS tag indicates that the present building on the site is not within the Period of Significance of the most recent survey (i.e., was built sometime after 1970).]
- Browse by map – scroll through the map page address list to select a location. When you click the address, a pin pops up on the map. You can zoom in on the map to find the station. The button in the top right corner of the map toggles the satellite view on/off. Clicking the pin takes you to the record for that station.
Keyword
- Use the search bar to do a keyword search across all fields in the database.
- Or, if you know a specific address, type it into the search bar (i.e., Alamo N. 1601).
